Jay Z has landed himself in trouble with the Major League Baseball Players Association, it has been reported. NY Daily News report that the Baseball union is investigating whether Jay Z violated rules by giving an expensive watch worth almost $34,000 to Yankee second baseman Robinson Cano. Jay - whose real name is Shawn Carter - gave the watch to Robinson to celebrate his 31st birthday at a bash in Belgium on 22 October. The Shawn Carter Classic Fusion watch by Hublot was designed by the rapper and entrepreneur himself. NY Daily News report that MLBPA regulations do not allow agents to offer 'any money, or any other thing of value' to players in order to influence them or persuade them to continue using their services. MailOnline reached out to Jay Z's representatives at Roc Nation who have so far been unable to comment.

Teenager detained for insulting President begins hunger strike!!

An Angolan teenager who has been in prison for two months awaiting trial for insulting President Jose Eduardo dos Santos has started a hunger strike to pressure authorities into releasing him, his lawyer said on Wednesday.

Reuters reports that Nito Alves, 17, was arrested on September 12 for printing slogans on T-shirts which prosecutors say insulted Dos Santos, Africa’s second longest-serving leader after Equatorial Guinea’s President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

The Nigeria Labour Congress has described the meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities as the most meaningful since 2009.

The acting General Secretary of the NLC, Mr. Chris Uyot, said in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Wednesday that the Monday to Tuesday meeting between the President and ASUU was the “most meaningful” since the Federal Government signed the contentious agreement with the lecturers’ body in 2009.

Uyot said the discussion focused essentially on the 2009 agreement which was exhaustively examined and dealt with.

Enugu State Governor and his first lady denies alleged house arrest!!

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State on Tuesday night denied subjecting his wife, Mrs. Clara Chime, to house arrest and has vowed to protect her from being exposed to ridicule. Chime made this denial in the presence of some journalists, his wife and her elder brother, Mr. Tony Igwe.

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has asked the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. MD Abubakar, to ensure the immediate release from unlawful detention of Mrs. Clara Chime, the First Lady of Enugu State who is being held hostage at Government House Enugu by Governor Sullivan Chime, or be dragged to court.  In a letter dated November 1, 2013, Mr. Falana, representing Mrs. Chime, pointed out that his client has been kept incommunicado in solitary confinement for over four months on the directives of Governor Chime.
