Kanye West may be one half of the most famous celebrity couple this year, but this amazing video shows he was once just a rap hopeful with huge dreams. The star's youthful beginnings have been revealed in this heart-warming interview with MTV all the way back in 2002.
And this is bound to make fiancee Kim feel all warm inside as she looks at how endearing her other half used to be. Kanye gives us a rare insight into his youthful trains of thought, saying how he hopes to one day "get radio", and touching on his stint working as Jay Z's producer the year before.
Now a stylish and doting father to North 'Nori' West, the 36-year-old is hardly recognisable in this relaxed and enthusiastic clip.
Wearing a red baseball cap with a giant red hoodie and green t-shirt, he looks every bit the teenage rapper.
The Yeezus star stops himself several times throughout as he finds himself going off on a complete tangent, before making a nervous joke and carrying on.
He announces he "was rapping since third grade" and touches on many of the stars that inspired him during his school days.
"I remember when they brought out Yamahas and Casio keyboards," he says.
"I had an urge to really create but I never wanted to really learn how to play music like that, and that was stagnating my growth because my mother was always like, if you can't play, you don't need the type of keyboard that can sequence and all that."
He added: "I found myself running home from school because I had an idea. Looking at the clock and it was only like 2:30, I was like 'I wanna get this beat down!'"
He then goes on to describe how his interests stretched as far as drawing in seventh grade, before saying he wanted to design video games.
At another point he tries a rap in front of the camera, then messes up and asks to start again, laughing the whole time with the kind of ease we would leave to see more of now.
Speaking about his work on Jay Z'salbum Blueprint, he says: "I was always rapping, and it just so happened that really, really phenomenal rappers got to rap on my beats before I got a chance to, so that pushed me into the classification of a producer, but I'm a rapper from the heart. I've got something to say."
And so he did, and just look at him now.
"I just had the hunger," he says thoughtfully, "my mother never raised me to ask for a handout."
This shows just how normal he was as he started out - and perhaps still is now - behind those crazy Kardashian doors.
Speaking about how he would deal with the haters, he said: "I'm gonna use everything that everyone says I can't do, and I'm gonna flip it to a positive."
And his enthusiasm speaks volumes, along with the bright smile and constant laughing, showing just how big this rapper's dreams were.
He says: "I told them, 'I'm gonna be bigger than Michael Jackson, I'm gonna be bigger than Jermaine Dupri!'"
He added: "Hopefully I get radio, I pray that people love it, but this is for y'all!"
We have seen you in a whole new light Kanye, where has that innocent side gone?
